Alexander Rossi claims second career pole in Monaco

After scoring second in free practice, behind Arthur Pic, Alexander Rossi was motivated to improve his time and has succeeded in doing it. Driving in Group B, the American set a laptime of 1:37.019, half a second ahead of Pic, while Raffaele Marciello was the quickest in group A and will start from the front row in tomorrow’s feature race.

The Group A was reserved for odd numbered cars and light rain started falling, causing all the drviers to eventually switch to wet tires. Richie Stanaway was the early pace-setter, but as his tires were warming up, he made room for Marciello who went to the first position. Stanaway later damaged his front wing, and in the meantime, Marciello set a laptime of 1:40.357. The last minutes of the session saw Daniel De Jong and Zoel Amberg crashing, and when the checkered flag went down, Marciello was followed by Stoffel Vandoorne, Julian Leal, Jordan King and De Jong.

The even numbered Group B drove on a wet track as well, and there, Alexander Rossi was setting up the pace, constantly improving his time while followed by Sergey Sirotkin and Arthur Pic. On his final lap, Rossi set a time of 1:37.019, which was enough for a pole position for tomorrow’s race. Behind him were Pic, Sirotkin, Nick Yelloly and Sergio Canamasas.
