Formula 3 Euro: Giovinazzi and Rosenqvist fastest qualifyers at Zandvoort
Antonio Giovinazzi (Jagonya Ayam with Carlin) and Felix Rosenqvist (Prema Powerteam) were the fastest drivers in today’s qualifying sessions for Formula 3 European Championship races at Zandvoort.
Giovinazzi (2nd placed in championship) took the pole-posititon for Race 1 on Saturday morning and Race 3 on Sunday morning, while Rosenqvist (3rd placed in championship) will start Saturday afternoon’s Race 2 as a poleman. The leader of the championship Charles Leclerc (Van Amersfoort) wasn’t so successfull and took positions P5, P6 and P10 respectively.
Giovinazzi set the fastest lap time of 1.29.897 in the first qualifying session, which determined the grid for Race 1. He will share the first row with Rosenqvist, who was only 97 thousands of second slower. Starters from second row will be Markus Pommer (Motopark) and Jake Dennis (Prema Powerteam). They will be followed by Charles Leclerc and Nabil Jeffri (Motorpark) in the third row. It’s a best qualifying record so far for Malaysian driver Jeffri.
Second qualifying session defined the grid positions for two races. The best lap time is for Race 1 and the second best lap time of each driver is for Race 3. Felix Rosenqvist set the best lap time of the day (1.29.713) and gets the pole for Race 2, but his second best lap wasn’t so good so he gets P3 in Race 3.
Giovinazzi was only 0.009 seconds slower than Rosenqvist and will be sharing theĀ first row in Race 2. Behind them at the start of Race 2 will be Pommer, Dennis, Lance Stroll (Prema Powerteam) and Leclerc.
Giovinazzi’s second best time was good enough for one more pole-position in Race 3. Markus Pommer was fast again and will start from 2nd place. Rosenqvist will share the second row with Jake Dennis and third row is reserved for Lance Stroll and Sergio Sette Camara (Motopark).
34 drivers took place in the qualifying. The first race is scheduled for 10.35 tomorrow, second race at 15.40 the same day and third race at 10.30 on Sunday.
