Alex Lynn takes his maiden GP2 pole in Hungaroring
GP3 champion Alex Lynn will be on pole for the GP2 race to be held in Budapest. After lapping the track in 1:28.022 seconds, he was ahead of Stoffel Vandoorne and Arthur Pic who was on the third spot. The track was yet again extremely hot, so drivers used their soft Pirelli tires. Raffaele Marciello set the first representative time, but Vandoorne was quicker and took the provisional pole. When most of the cars went to the pits, Arthur Pic used the opportunity and improved his time, though only to third position.
DAMS drivers Lynn and Vandoorne entered the track first, and while free of traffic, Briton scored his best lap time, and the best lap time of the session. In the meantime, Marciello improved to third, but on his last attempt, Arthur Pic managed to set the better time and settle for third. Behind the top three were Marciello, Pierre Gasly, Jordan King, Rio Haryanto, Mitch Evans, Sergey Sirotkin and Nick Yelloly, who rounded up the top ten whilst title contender Alexander Rossi flipped and had to settle with eleventh spot.
