F3 Euro: Rosenqvist and Giovinazzi share pole-positions in Spielberg

Felix Rosenqvist (Prema Powerteam) and Antonio Giovinazzi (Jagonya Ayam with Carlin) will share pole positions in three races of FIA Formula 3 European Championship at Red Bull Ring in Spielberg. Rosenqvist will start from pole in Race 1 and Race 2 on Saturday, while Giovinazzi gets pole for Race 3 on Sunday.

Rosenqvist was the fastest (1:24.510 minutes) in the first qualifying session at the 4.326-km long Red Bull Ring and secured his ninth pole position this season. His teammate Jake Dennis was the second fastest, only 7 thousands of a second slower than Rosenqvist.

The best-placed rookie, Lance Stroll, completed the success of the Prema Powerteam that locked out the first three places. Antonio Giovinazzi, the current F3 European Championship points’ leader, ended up in fourth place. Fifth was Charles Leclerc (Van Amersfoort Racing), who will share third row in the starting grid with Sergio Sette Câmara (Motopark). George Russell (Carlin), Alexander Albon (Signature), Markus Pommer (Motopark) and Gustavo Menezes (Jagonya Ayam with Carlin) completed the top ten.

Felix Rosenqvist was the fastest once again in the second qualifying session. The Swede ended up ahead of Antonio Giovinazzi. The best-placed rookie Lance Stroll again was third. Sérgio Sette Câmara was another driver who proved his mettle with his good performance: following his sixth place in the first qualifying, he came out two places better in the second session and ended up in the fourth spot.

Markus Pommer, Charles Leclerc, George Russell, Alexander Albon, Mikkel Jensen (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) and Jake Dennis completed the top ten. The session was briefly interrupted with red flags following a spin by Julio Moreno (ThreeBond with T-Sport).

In the ranking of the second-fastest laps, used to determine the starting grid positions for the third race, Giovinazzi came out on top ahead of Rosenqvist. Motopark’s Sette Câmara claimed third place from his team-mate Markus Pommer. Lance Stroll, Charles Leclerc, Jake Dennis, Alexander Albon, George Russell and Callum Ilott (Carlin) completed the top ten.

A total of 33 drivers took part in the qualifying race at Red Bull Ring. Race 1 is scheduled for 11.05 on Saturday. Race 2 will follow at 15.45. The third race is scheduled for 11.45 on Sunday.
