V8 Supercars Wilson Security Sandown 500 – day 2
It was a busy Saturday at Sandown Raceway near Melbourne as V8 Supercars event enters its second day. The Wilson Security Sandown 500 event started yesterday with free practice sessions and continued today with one more (fourth) practice session and qualifying for both the drivers and the co-drivers. First, the last practice was won by Mark Winterbottom in his blue Ford Falcon with the time of 1:08.8740 which is a full second quicker than yesterday’s results. Chaz Mostert was second and Jamie Whincup was third very close behind, repeating his good driving from yesterday.
Next qualifying session for main drivers was dominated by another Pepsi Max Crew driver, Chaz Mostert who secured himself a pole position for tomorrow’s race in front of his teammate Mark Winterbottom. Again, Jamie Whincup is third and in the second row of the grid, with good chances of winning the 161 lap race tomorrow. However, it was long race and anything could have happened.
Last sessions of the day were two qualifying races, one for co-drivers and one for main drivers, each lasting 20 laps (sprint type). The first one was won by Paul Dumbrell for Red Bull Racing Australia with yesterday’s practice heroes Owen and Waters in Fords on second and third place. Same line up of brands (Holden 1st and two Fords behid) was repeated in qualifying race for main drivers when Jamie Whincup finished first in front of Mark Winterbottom and Chaz Mostert.
