WTCC: Tarquini tops free practice in Shanghai

Italian Gabriele Tarquini set the fastest lap time during free practice of the WTCC race in Shanghai. Honda driver had a result of 1:51.222, beating Norbert Michelisz and Jose Maria Lopez.

Hungarian, also Honda driver, was just  0.049s behind Tarquini, while reigning champion and standings leader in Citroen C-Elysee was 0.111s behind. His teammate Yvan Muller was fourth and Nicky Catsburg in Lada Vesta had a fifth best result.

Tom Chilton at seventh was best placed Chevrolet RML Cruze driver, Rob Huff in Lada was eighth, leaving local crowd favorite Ma Qing Hua on ninth position.

The qualifications for the races in Shanghai are scheduled for Saturday, while both races will be held on Sunday.
