Renault Sport Trophy: ART Junior Team won Endurance race at Jerez

Andrea Pizzitola and Richard Gonda, the crew of  #2 ART Junior Team Renault Sport R.S. 01, are the winner of Endurance race of Renault Sport Trophy at Jerez. They repeated the victory from previous race at Le Mans. Oregon Team’s duo in #8 car David Fumanelli and Dario Capitanio, who already take the championship title in Endurance category, finished second at Jerez. Their team-mates in car #6 Luciano Bacheta and Niccolo Nalio finished third.

David Fumanelli started from pole and held on to the lead ahead of Steijn Schothorst, while Andrea Pizzitola started from fifth and immediately overtook Nicky Pastorelli and Nelson Panciatici. In Lap 2 Pizzitola jumped to the lead and remained there until the drivers change.

After Gonda took the wheel of #2 car Safety Car was deployed, because of retirement of Toni Forné (ART Junior Team #3) on his out lap. At the restart Richard Gonda quickly pulled away from Dario Capitanio. Further back, Niccolò Nalio moved up the order after serving his drive-through penalty from Le Mans. Richard Gonda cruised to the win with a 23-second margin of victory from Dario Capitanio. Niccolò Nalio finished third ahead of Diederik Sijthoff, Christof von Grünigen (Zele Racing #9), Andres Mendez (Zele Racing #11) and Max Braams (V8 Racing #4). Antonio Coimbra (Equipe Verschuur #1), Jean Ragnotti (Monlau Competicion #14) and Adalberto Baptista (Oregon Team #7) were the final point scorers.

Leader of the intermediate classification, Andrea Pizzitola now has a nine point lead in the Elite category. A margin that is still not enough to clinch the title on Sunday because Steijn Schothorst (Equipe Verschuur #10) still has one-point lead after the dropping of the worst result of the season.
