Green is the winner of DTM season opener

The winner of the DTM season opening race at Hockenheim is Jamie Green. The Audi driver had a pole position and stayed at the top during the course of the 40 minutes of the race. In the end, he cruised to the finish line ahead of Mercedes’ duo Pascal Wehrlein and Paul Di Resta.

There were some slip-ups during the first few turns, but without any huge accidents. Jamie Green managed to keep his lead ahead of Pascal Wehrlein. On the other hand, Augusto Farfus had to start from the back  because the amount of fuel left in his car after qualifying was less than  minimum required amount. The Brazilian driver previously set the third best time in the qualifying round.

The first driver who had to retire was Robert Wickens, who had to suffer due to technical problems with his Mercedes. Paul Di Resta was in a  good position and soon moved up to second, 3.4 seconds behind the leader.

In the middle of the race, the safety car went out when Daniel Juncadella crashed at Sachs Kurve. This eventually led to Green’s lead being cut. However, he was still in solid charge after the green flag was shown.

Just one lap after the first safety car outing, it was employed again because of the crash at the back of the grid involving Garry Paffett, Lucas Auer and Martin Tomczyk, so they all had to finish the race earlier.

So, even ten minutes before the end, it was not sure what the end result would be because the gaps between the cars were very small. However, the last laps still seemed quiet peaceful. It looked like nobody wanted to take too many risks and the standings stayed almost unchanged. Wehrlein managed to take over Di Resta in the final minutes because the Scottish driver had some trouble with the brakes in his car.

Green met the expectations by winning the ninth DTM race of his career, proving that he will lead Audi to glory this season. Mercedes had a decent run as well, managing to win two places at the podium.

Of the drivers in the BMW camp, Maxime Martin, who people had most expectations from ended at seventh place, which was too far below expectations. Audi’s impressive performance in the race was taken to another level with the competent racing by Edoardo Mortara, Mike Rockenfeller and Nico Muller as they took over  positions from 4 to 6.
