2015 V8 Supercars Perth Super Sprint – qualifications and race 3
The Perth Super Sprint weekend end on a very interesting note thanks to the ever-dynamic V8 Supercars series. After the two Super Sprint races (each of 25 laps) the third and main race was held on Sunday. It lasted half an hour and consisted of a total of 83 laps.
The final day of the Perth Super Sprint weekend started with an early morning short practice session in which Chaz Mostert proved to be the fastest. However, the experienced Fabian Coulthard and Shane van Gisbergen were not far behind, proving their superior skills and abilities. Mark Winterbottom ranked fourth and Craig Lowndens could only manage a tenth place. Here are the practice results:

The morning practice was followed by a qualifying session which was again dominated by Ford Falcon while Mostert and Winterbottom’s Pepsi Max Crew duo was on the pole and at the second position. Last year’s champion Jamie Whincup was fourth and his teammate Craig Lowndes was sixth. Here are the full results of the last qualifying session:

Then it was the time for the final and major race of the 2015 Perth Super Sprint event. It got off to a smooth start, without any accidents but saw plenty of close, bumper-to-bumper driving, always a common occurrence in V8 Supercars races.
Most of the drivers started on hard compound tyres, which was a good choice since those who started on soft compound tires were soon forced to change them. One such driver was Jamie Whincup who even experienced a little of track excursion because of the lack of grip from his soft compound rubber tyres.
For the most of the race, the Ford duo (Mostert &Winterbottom) stayed in the lead but they were closely trailed by all the other drivers waiting to attack. When safety car was out, a small accident involving a driver who went off track, the rest of the pack came close to Pepsi Max Crew drivers and then the battle really began.
Will Davison, the Erebus Mercedes Motorsport V8 driver, who started from seventh place first attacked Lowndes in Holden and than the Ford duo. With his perfect concentration and fast driving he was in the lead, which he held till the end of the race, putting his Mercedes on first place in the interesting V8 Supercars race. This was his first win and second win of the Erebus Mercedes Motorsport V8 team.
Interestingly, if the Will Davison hadn’t won this race and Craig Lowndes who was second, did, it would be Lowndes’s 100th V8 Supercars win. However, the Holden driver is going to have to wait for next event while Will Davison and his team celebrate a well-deserved and stellar win on 2015 Perth Super Sprint main race.
