Logano on pole for 2015 Spongebob Squarepants 400

After a late and unexpected Erik Jones’ first place in second practice, all eyes were on the young star for the 2015 Spongebob Squarepants 400 race qualifying. Carl Edwards took the early lead in the first round with 28.075. Logano, McMurray, Dale Jr and Truex Jr. were behind him with around 10 minutes to go. The top five remained unchanged, and the other five in top 10 were Kevin Harvick, Erik Jones, Brad Keselowski, Kurt Busch and Tony Stewart. Casey Mears was just above the yellow line, while AJ Allmendinger, Danica Patrick, Justin Allgaier and Sam Hornish Jr. were among those who didn’t advance to round 2.

The second round saw Carl Edwards taking the lead again with 28.146. With around five minutes to go, Martin Truex Jr. took the lead by doing 28.127s. In the end of Round 2, Truex Jr. was followed by Edwards, Keselowski, McMurray and Gordon. Harvick was on sixth, Jones was seventh and was followed by Joey Logano, Kasey Kahne, Kyle Larson, Greg Biffle and Kurt Busch. Denny Hamlin, Dale Jr, Jimmie Johnson and Tony Stewart didn’t advance to the final round.

In round 3, Keselowski took the early lead with 28.146, but was beaten by Joey Logano who won the pole with 28.067, his first in Kansas and fourth this season. He was followed by Kahne, Keselowski, Truex Jr. and Edwards in top 5. Harvick was on sixth with Biffle, Busch, Jamie McMurray, Kyle Larson, Jeff Gordon and Erik Jones behind him.
