ADAC GT Masters: Callaway Competition wins race 2 at Sachsenring

Callaway Competition drivers Daniel Keilwitz and Jules Gounon are the winners of the ADAC GT Masters race two at Sachsenring. Sunday’s race was very intensive, with many contacts and incidents, but t was very interesting until the last lap.

Perfect start from Keilwitz

Reigning champion Luca Ludwig won the pole position for the Zakspeed Team, in front of Bentley Team Abt’s Audi #7 and kfzteile24 – APR Motorsport’s Audi #24. But, soon after the start Daniel Keilwitz in Callaway Competition’s Corvette #77 took the lead and was followed by Laurens Vanthoor in #24 while Ludwig dropped to third place.

Kelvin van der Linde also did good job as he moved up to fourth in Car Collection Motorsport’s Audi #34, only minutes before the pit window was opened. In a meantime, Daniel Abt dropped to seventh and soon to 11th position, while Christian Engelhart in GRT Grasser’s Lambo #63 suffered a tyre puncture after contact with other car.

Bonald Motorsport and YACO Racng at sachsenring

After the pit window was closed, Corvette #77 retained the lead with Jules Gounon in the seat. Audi #24 still was at 2nd, with Florian Stoll as a driver and Sebastian Asch in #1 Mercedes was 3rd. Abt’s Bentley #7 with Christer Jons recovered well and soon clmbed to 4th position.

Excellent finish from YACO Racing

With 20 minutes to go, gaps between the cars were reduced after safety car was deployed when Andreas Weishaupt n #9 Bentley slid from the track. After the restart, Philipp Geipel in YACO Racng’s Audi #50 drove perfectly to move up to second place and secure podium finish, 4.5s behind the winners. Florian Stoll clinched third place for kfztele24’s #24 while reigning champions at the end were only ninth.
