Dodge Viper GT3-R - A Harmony of Power and Speed
The Dodge Viper SRT is a sportscar made by the Dodge division of Chrysler and by SRT between 2012 and 2014, while Dodge Viper GT3-R is a model solely designed for racing.
This car became available for racing teams in the later half of 2013 for an estimated value of 460,000 dollars which is more than four times the cost of the regular model. However, this model offers the opportunity to benefit from SRT’s racing experience and Riley Technologies’ design knowledge.
Powerful bits of the GT3 – R
The GT3-R employs a chassis, suspension, electronics and aerodynamic components derived directly from the GTS-R model designed for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The body kit includes a front splitter, an adjustable rear wing and a rear diffuser. The car weights 1295kg.
The GT3-R has a powerful 8.4 litre V10 engine tuned up to 680 horsepower. Other upgrades include a six-gear sequential transmission with paddle shifters, six-piston front brake calipers with four-piston rears and lightweight wheels. Inside, the GT3-R has the necessary FIA homologated racing seat with a six-point harness and an optional air conditioning system.
Success of the Viper
Success arrived in 2014 when Dodge Viper GT3 won its first race in the Tudor USSC race at Mosport. That was followed with a win in the Pirelli World Challenge in Toronto the same year and also with a title in the Dutch Supercar Challenge. Those were the latest triumphs of Dodge Vipers, but older models of the car were also very successful.
GT3’s predecessor, the original Viper GTS-R, was unveiled in 1996 and posted three 1-2 class finishes at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it also won overall at the 24 Hours of Daytona, and captured five FIA titles apart from 16 national GT championships.
In 2007, Viper won two championship titles on two continents. Winning the new FIA GT3 Championship in Brazil, a Viper Competition Coupe beat cars from Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche. In England, the Viper took the British GT Championship, with Team RPM drivers finishing 81 points ahead of its closest competitor.
