Fortec Motorsports scored a double victory in Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup race today at Nürburgring. The winner was Ben Barnicoat, last year’s FR 2.0 NEC champion, who scored his first pole and a victory in the Eurocup, becoming the eighth different winner in the category this year. For his teammate, Croatian Martin Kodrić, it was also the best result so far. Frenchman Anthoine Hubert (Tech 1 Racing) completed the podium. Fourth placed Louis Delétraz (Josef Kaufmann Racing) slightly increased his lead in the general classification, but five drivers can still knock him off the top spot in two weeks at Le Mans.

Barnicoat took his first pole position ahead of Kodrić, Ukyo Sasahara (ART Junior Team), Anthoine Hubert, Kevin Jörg (Josef Kaufmann Racing), Louis Delétraz, Jack Aitken (Koiranen GP) and Jake Hughes (Koiranen GP). Due to rain, the race began behind the safety car. After four laps, in which Jehan Daruvala (Fortec Motorsports) and Vasily Romanov (Cram Motorsport) dropped out, the action got underway.

Ukyo Sasahara attacked Kodrić on Lap 6 and overtook him, but the Croat quickly answered back. Louis Delétraz got past Kevin Jörg a lap earlier and Jack Aitken was surprised by Jake Hughes on Lap 6. Three laps later, Ukyo Sasahara got it wrong and dropped to sixth place, between Kevin Jörg and Jake Hughes, who saw Jack Aitken retake the position he lost just a moment before.

Ben Barnicoat scored comfortable win by more than six seconds ahead of Martin Kodrić. Anthoine Hubert resisted attacks from Luis Delétraz to pick up his fifth podium result of the year. Kevin Jörg was fifth ahead of Jack Aitken and Jake Hughes, who both overtook Ukyo Sasahara on the final lap. Ignazio D’Agosto (Manor MP Motorsport) and Harrison Scott (AVF) also finished in the points zone.

In the championship classification Delétraz has 144 points and followers are very close to him – Jörg has 139, Aitken 136 and Hughes 132 points. Hubert is fifth with 115 points. Next World Series by Renault event is scheduled for 26/27 September at Le Mans.
