Hiroaki Ishiura is 2015 Japanese Super Formula champion

Hiroaki Ishiura is 2015 Japanese Super Formula champion. He clinched the title after season’s finale at Suzuka Circuit. He came to Suzuka as championship leader and defends his lead ahead Kazuki Nakajima and Andre Lotterer. Ishiura scored 2nd position in Race 1 and 4nd position in Race 2, which was enough to collect points for his first Super Formula title. For 34-year old driver of Project µ/cerumo-Inging Team this is a biggest success of career after championship title in GT300 class of 2007 Super GT Series.

Last round of the championship was the only doubleheader round, with two shorter races insted one long race. Andre Lotterer (Petronas Tom’s) secured pole-position for Race 1 and scoredthe victory in 20-lap race ahead Ishiura and Kamui Kobayashi (Team Kygnus). Kazuki Nakajima (Petronas Tom’s),who was the main Ishiura’s rival in title fight, finished fourth and his gap behind the championship leader increased to 7,5 points. The only way to take the title was a victory in Race 2 and Ishiura outside the points.

It was mission impossible for Nakajima. He finished second in Race 2, behind pole-sitter Naoki Yamamoto (Team Mugen), but Ishiura finished fourth and secured the title. Joao Paulo Lima de Oliveira (Lenovo Team Impul) completed the podium.
