BMW driver Timo Glock won the DTM race 2 at Red Bull Ring to complete excellent weekend for the Bavarians. This is Glock’s third win in the series and first since triumphing at Oschersleben in 2015.

Jamie Green took pole position for the race but three BMWs were behind him ready to have a fight. As it was expected, Timo Glock was the one who quickly overtook Green, Antonio Felix da Costa was in third and Edoardo Mortara in the fourth position. In lap 3 safety car went out after Nico Muller slid off the track and after the restart Mortara moved up to the third while da Costa dropped to sixth place, behind Augusto Farfus and Maxime Martin.

At the same time, Mercedes had horrible moments. Best ranked driver of the Stuttgarters was local boy Lucas Auer at 13th position.

After the mandatory pit stop was completed, almost nothing has changed at the top of the grid. Glock was 3.8s ahead of Green while Mortara and da Costa were around 8.5s behind on third and fourth place. But Mortara ended race earlier after a collision with da Costa who managed to get back to the track but dropped well down in the ranks.

Mattias Ekstrom Audi DTM

Mattias Ekstrom and Abt team had excellent tactics in race 2

But, Mattias Ekstrom had a great strategy as he stayed long on the track and completed mandatory pit only 17 minutes before the end. He jumped up to the third position what was an excellent job knowing that he has started from 11th place and later dropped to 13th.

With five minutes to go, Ekstrom managed to overtake Green and begin the chase for Glock but there hasn’t been enough time for another surprise by Swedish driver. At the end, he was only 2.2s behind the winner Glock while Green finished third, 6s behind the winner. After this triumph, Glock took the lead in the Drivers’ championship.
