911 is the winning number at Zandvoort 12-hour marathon
The Precote Herberth Motorsport’s Porsche 991 GT3 R is the winning car of the 12H Zandvoort, the fourth round of the 2016 24H Series. Four drivers of the #911 car were Daniel Allemann, Ralf Bohn, Robert Renauer and Alfred Renauer.
As usual at Zandvoort, the race consisted of two parts, with three-hour stint on Friday and nine hours of driving on Saturday. The winning crew rounded 368 laps or almost 1600 km across 4.3-km long Zandvoort Circuit, four more laps than second placed crew in the Massive Motorsport #55 Aston Martin Vantage GT3. The drivers of the Vantage were Kristian Poulsen, Casper Elgaard, Nicolai Sylvest and Roland Poulsen.
Hofor Racing’s #10 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 scored one more podium, after second place finish in March at 12H Mugello race. This time, the team have to be satisfied with third place after a close fight against new Mercedes-AMG GT3 of RAM Racing. Five drivers were driving Hofor’s Mercedes: Michael Kroll, Chantal Kroll, Kenneth Heyer, Bernd Kupper and Roland Eggimann.
The story could be different if RAM Racing team wasn’t penalized with addition of ten laps because of an infringement of the parc fermé rules. The team started from pole and fought for the victory, but on the Friday’s penultimate lap Paul White collided with a lapped Porsche and had to come to the pits for repairs. On Saturday’s morning the #30 RAM Racing’s Mercedes started with 10-lap penalty and finished the race with nine laps gap behind the winners.
IDEC Sport Racing #17 Mercedes completed the top 5. Sixth overall and the winners of 991 class are Charles Putman, Charles Espenlaub and Xavier Maassen in the MRS-GT Racing’s Porsche.
