WEC - Austin: Third consecutive win for the reigning champions

Reigning FIA WEC champions Mark Webber, Timo Bernhard and Brendon Hartley takes their third consecutive victory of the season by winning the 6 hours of Circuit of the Americas at Austin, Texas. The trio in the #1 Porsche 919 Hybrid won three races in a row, at Nurburgring, Mexico and US, but because of bad results at the end of the season, they are only fourth in the drivers’ classification after six races.

All three LMP1 manufacturers were represented on podium, as the #8 Audi R18 quattro of of Lucas Di Grassi, Oliver Jarvis and Loic Duval finished second and the #6 Toyota TS 050 Hybrid of Mike Conway, Stephane Sarrazin and Kamui Kobayashi took third place. Marfc Lieb, Neel Jani and Romain Dumas, the crew in the #2 Porsche, finished fourth for the third race in a row, collecting valuable points to remain in the championship lead.

The Signatech Alpine #36 crew took fourth win of the 2016 season. Nicolas Lapierre, Gustavo Menezes and Stephane Richelmi were fastest in the Nissan-powered Alpine A460 and they extended their large point’s lead in the LMP2 championship.

Aston Martin Racing celebrated a double win in the LMGTE classes, as the #95 Vantage of Marco Sorensen and Nicki Thiim won in the Pro class and the #98 car of Pedro Lamy, Paul Dalla Lana and Mathias Lauda finished first in the Am class.
