Callaway's Corvette wins at Zandvoort to extend ADAC GT lead
Callaway Competition’s Jules Gounon convert his second pole position of the season into his second win in the 2017 ADAC GT Masters today at Circuit Park Zandvoort. The 22-year-old Frenchman was the fastest driver in the qualifying session in Callaway’s #77 Corvette C7 to secure the best starting position in the first race of the fourth round.
With this victory, Jules Gounon extend his lead in the championship after seven races. His co-driver at Zandvoort was Dutch racer Renger van der Zande because a regular co-driver Daniel Keilwitz had to miss a race due to an injury.
The #3 Audi R8 of Aust Motorsport started from P2 and finished in the second place, driven by Markus Pommer and Kelvin van der Linde. They were in the third place for most of the race but mistakes of other crews gave them second place.
Pommer lost a position at the start to #21 Zakspeed Mercedes. Then, the #21 crew was penalized due to pitstop time violation, so the #19 Grasser Racing’s Lamborghini Huracan took the second place. Mirko Bortolotti in the #19 Lamborghini and Kelvin van der Linde in the #3 Audi were fighting for the second place until lap 18, when Bortolotti went off to a gravel, causing a Safety Car intervention with ten minutes to race.
That incident promoted HTP Motorsport’s #48 Mercedes, driven by Indy Dontje and Marvin Kirchhofer, to the third place. The race restarted with two minutes more on a clock but there was no changes among the leaders.
