Luca Ghiotto (Russian Time) finally scored his first victory in the 2017 FIA Formula 2 Championship season today at Monza. Following yesterday penalty which stripped him off the victory in the Feature race, Ghiotto’s today’s win is clean. He started from P5 on the reversed grid and managed to win the race ahead of Sergio Sette Camara (MP Motorsport) and Antonio Fuoco (Prema Powerteam).
Gustav Malja started from P1 but he lost the lead in turn 1 to Sean Gelael. Deletraz and Sette Camara progressed to P2 and P3 respectively. Deletraz took the lead on lap 3 while Ghiotto passed Malja for P4 on lap 4. Ghiotto needed seven more laps to get first place. On lap 12, Deletraz lost one more place to Sette Camara and then dropped to P4 on lap 19, behind Fuoco.
Championship leader Charles Leclerc, who started from back of the grid, progressed to P9, missing to score points. Other championship front-runners Oliver Rowland and Artem Markelov were also out of the points. Ghiotto remained fourth in the championship order, reducing a gap behind third-placed Markelov.
