Monaco ePrix: Buemi's supremacy continues

  • 2017 Formula E Monaco ePrix

Sebastien Buemi continued his domination in the FIA Formula E Championship by scoring the fourth win in the 2016-2017 season.

The reigning champion and the championship leader Sebastien Buemi snatched maiden pole position of the season. Besides the Renault e.Dams driver in the first starting row was his main rival Lucas Di Grassi of Abt Schaeffler Audi Sport, while Nelson Piquet Jr (NextEV) and Jean-Eric Vergne (Techeetah) started from the second row.

It was an action-packed race at the short and narrow circuit but the standings at the top of the grid were unchanged until the lap 22 when Vergne was out of the race after the collision with Piquet. The safety car was deployed and all teams decided for a bit earlier pit stop. One who profited from that crash was Nick Heidfeld (Mahindra) who moved up to the 3rd place.

In the last couple of laps, Di Grassi did everything he could to take the lead from Buemi, but the Swiss racer was calm and concentrated enough to win again. Heidfeld finished 3rd what is his second podium finish this season.
