Formula V8 3.5: Fittipaldi returns to the top podium spot
Pietro Fittipaldi scores his third win of the season in the 2017 World Series Formula V8 3.5 today at Circuito de Jerez. After being a double winner in the season-opening round at Silverstone, the 20-year-old Lotus driver missed wins at Spa and Monza. At Jerez, he returns to the top podium spot after starting from pole and dominating for entire race. It was his sixth pole position of the season.
Egor Orudzhev (SMP Racing by AV) was second today, scoring his fourth podium this year. His teammate Matevos Isaakyan takes the third podium spot at Jerez. Alfonso Celis Jr (Fortec Motorsport) and Rene Binder (Lotus) complete the top 5.
Fifth place was good enough for Rene Binder to remain in the championship lead after four rounds/eight races. Yesterday’s race winner Roy Nissany (RP Motorsport) scores no points today, he retired due to technical problems.
In the championship standings, Binder has 120 points, just one more than Fittipaldi. Nissany is third, with 106 points on his account.
The next round is scheduled for June 24-25 at Motorland Aragon.
