GP3 Series: Third sprint race win in a row for Giuliano Alesi
Giuliano Alesi (Trident) captured his third win of the season in the 2017 GP3 Series today at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. He takes all three wins in Sunday’s sprint races with reversed grid. Following his seventh place in yesterday’s race, Alesi started from P2 today, next to Julien Falchero, but took the lead immediately on the opening lap.
Alesi remained in front for 13 laps, winning the race with 1.3 seconds advantage over yesterday’s winner and championship leader George Russell (ART Grand Prix). Ryan Tveter (Trident) finished third, taking his second podium of the season.
George Russell increased his advantage over Jack Aitken in the championship standings. Aitken suffered a puncture today and finished 18th, not scoring points. After ten races, he has 101 points, 36 less than Russell,with three more rounds on a calendar (Monza, Jerez, Abu Dhabi).
