The reigning Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson scored his second victory of the season in the rain-delayed Food City 500 at the Bristol Motor Speedway. Due to persistent rain on Sunday, the race was prolonged to Monday.

In the race on the 0.533-mile oval track, Johnson was leading for 81 of the 500 laps to score second consecutive win, following his triumph in the previous race at Texas Motor Speedway. For Johnson, it was his 82nd Cup Series win in a career and his second at Bristol’s circuit.

Pole-starter Kyle Larson finished sixth. He led the opening 202 laps, including a Stage 1 win, but a pit-road speeding penalty on Lap 423 knocked him back to 17th place. He fought back to P6, maintaining a lead in the series standings. Stage 2 winner Martin Truex Jr. also faced a speeding penalty which put him back into 15th place but he returned into top 10, finishing in the 8th place.
