GP3 Series: Victories for Hubert, Ilott at Le Castellet

  • GP3 Series Circuit Paul Ricard race 1
  • Anthoine Hubert, GP3 Series, Circuit Paul Ricard

Anthoine Hubert (ART Grand Prix) and Callum Ilott (ART Grand Prix) are the race winners of two GP3 Series races at Circuit Paul Ricard, in the second round of the 2018 GP3 Series season.

Dorian Boccolacci (MP Motorsport) was the provisional winner of the Race 1 on Saturday, after starting from pole position, but both he and MP Motorsport’s fifth-placed teammate Niko Kari were disqualified post-race and the victory went to Anthoine Hubert. Two MP Motorsport drivers were stripped off from the results because their cars were unable to provide an the mandatory 1-litre fuel sample for the post-race technical checks.

Anthoine Hubert inherited a victory, ahead of teammate Nikita Mazepin and Giuliano Alesi (Trident). The victory gave 25 points to Hubert and he took the championship lead after three races.

Callum Ilott started from pole on the recersed grid in the Race 2, converting it into his maiden GP3 Series victory. Pedro Piquet (Trident) crossed the finish line in the second place, 3.4 seconds behind Ilott. Joey Mawson (Arden) climbed on the third podium spot.

Anthoine Hubert finished seventh in the secondrace, taking two points to confirm his championship lead ahead of Nikita Mazepin and Giuliano Alesi.
