ADAC F4 Championship: Joey Mawson wins Race 3 at Sachsenring
Australian Joey Mawson (Van Amersfoort Racing) won the third race of ADAC F4 Championship at Sachsenring. It was Mawson’s third victory in 2015 season. After two victories yesterday Marvin Dienst (HTP Junior Team) finished second in Race 3 and further confirmed his championship lead. Kim Luis Schramm (Neuhauser Racing) achieved his best F4 result with the third place.
Same as in the first race yesterday, we saw three Safety Car interventions. Only a few turns after the start Marylin Niederhauser (Race Performance), Marek Böckmann (Jenzer Motorsport) and Jan Jonck (RS Competition) crashed and Safety Car was out. Second SC exit followed in Lap 8 after Nico Rindlisbacher (Jenzer Motrosport) spun and got stuck on the kerb. Third interruption followed after Jonathan Cecotto (Motopark) and Michael Waldherr (Neuhauser Racing) crashed in Turn 1 of Lap 12. Waldherr was the most tragic figure of the race. He had a big chance for a good result because he started from pole-position, but his car stalled after red lights turned off and he felt to the back of the field. He resumed the race but only until Lap 12 and crash with Cecotto.
Kim Luis Schramm, who started from 2nd, made the most of Waldherr’s troubled start and he took the lead. Schramm was leading until Lap 17 when he lost the lead against Mawson and shortly after that Dienst overtook second place. Mawson started 7th and Dienst started 10th so they had to overtake many rivals to get to podium places. Third championship contender Joel Eriksson (Motopark), who started ninth, finished sixth.
Other points finishers are Mike Ortmann (4th, Mücke Motorsport), David Beckmann (5th, Mücke Motorsport), Jason Kremer (7th, Team Scheider), Tim Zimmermann (Neuhauser Racing), Janneau Esmeijer (HTP Junior Team) and Robert Shwartzman (Mücke Motorsport). Mick Schumacher (Van Amersfoort Racing), who started from 6th place, finished 18th. He was fifth after the first lap, but had a puncture and lost positions during pit-stop.
After 6 events and 18 races Marvin Dienst is the championship leader with 262 points, ahead of Joel Eriksson (228) and Joey Mawson (225). Two more racing weekends are ahead: in two weeks at Oschersleben and in October at Hockenheim.
