Citroen and Virgin create DS Virgin Racing Formula E Team
Virgin Racing and Citroen’s sub-brand DS Automobiles created a new team for the next season of FIA Formula E Championship – DS Virgin Racing Formula E Team. That was announced today at press conference in London by Virgin Group’s founder Sir Richard Branson and future team manager Alex Tai.
The French manufacturer and the British team have struck a deal for developing electric racing technology for the new team. Citroen Racing and its sub-brand DS are already developing electric motors and other components for Virgin’s racing single-seater.
Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson said at the launch: “I’m thrilled that Virgin Racing is playing a leading role in another of Formula E’s visions, that of attracting the large automotive OEMs into the sport in order that the technology that is developed flows down into the cars that we can all drive. I have no doubt the partnership will prove a great success, not only on track but also in providing a catalyst to develop the electric vehicles of the future.”
Virgin Racing team principal will be Alex Tai. The Formule E team will closely cooperate with Citroen’s DS Motorsport Division which will be run by YvesMatton.
