Formula E: London ePrix preview
The inaugural season of the FIA Formula E will conclude this weekend in London with two races scheduled for Saturday and Sunday and it will be interesting to see who will win the first championship title in a very close battle.
The last two ePrix races of the season will be held at Battersea Park , in the heart of London. The layout of street circuit has fairly conventional corners but the chicanes are all of varying speeds, which will make for an interesting challenge.
At the start of the season finale, Nelson Piquet Jr. holds the lead position in the championship. The Brazilian driver of the Chinese NEXTEV TCR team has an advantage of 17 points in front of his compatriot Lucas Di Grassi (Audi Sport Abt Formula E Team), while Sebastien Buemi (e.dams Renault) lies on third, 23 points behind Piquet.
So, the battle for the title is quite openthe drivers also could win additional three points for pole position in each race, as well two points for the fastest lap. Apart from that, usually each driver’s lowest-scoring round is dropped from their total, but ePrix rounds where the driver was excluded from the race can’t be dropped.
With a promising performance and a bit of luck in London ePrix, Nelsinho Piquet could win the title after the first race on Saturday, but his rivals will do everything they can to keep the battle exciting until the last lap of the season which completely fulfilled the expectations and got attention from across the world.
In the Teams’ championship, things looks like less uncertain as the e.dams Renault team is 44 points in front of Audi Sport Abt, while NEXTEV TCR is third with 55 points behind French team which is already ready to open those bottles of the bubbly for celebrations in London.
