GP3: Ceccon takes his first win in Silverstone sprint race

Sunday’s Silverstone opener was the 15-lap long GP3 sprint race which was won by Kevin Ceccon. Ralph Boschung was on pole position and the race started 8:25GMT+1, but was immediately overtaken by Kevin Ceccon. Emil Bernstorff and feature race winner Marvin Kirchhofer were battling again, this time for the fifth place.

Matthew Parry and Luca Ghiotto had both overtaken Kirchhofer while Bernstorff got to fifth. However, on lap 4, Bernstorff tried overtaking Jimmy Eriksson but went off track and dropped back to sixth. That enabled Parry to get in Eriksson’s tail.

Halfway into the race, Ceccon pulled away from the pack and his gap over Esteban Ocon was 1.6s. Stewards warned two cars with a black and white flag. The warned drivers were Ashkanani and Hoeher. Antonio Fuoco dropped to the last after spinning his car off track at Beckets. With a stable lead, Kevin Ceccon won the race with Esteban Ocon and Ralph Boschung. Jimmy Eriksson managed to defend his fourth place and keep Parry on fifth. Behind him were Emil Bernstorff, Ghiotto, Kirchhofer, Tuscher and Tunjo.
