Hamilton topps FP1 in Abu Dhabi

Lewis Hamilton was the fastest in the first free practice for the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit.

This session by many teams was used to test new items for next season, so the results weren’t completely representative. Also, weather and track conditions were completely different than ones which are expected for the qualifying and race.

Anyway, Mercedes was dominant again as after first 30 minutes in which only 14 cars completed full lap. Rosberg’s lap time was 1:43.895 was just 0.101s better than Hamilton’s, while the others were well behind Silver Arrows. For example, Kimi Raikkonen on third position was 1.311s slower.

Hamilton was fastest in the next 30 minutes, with a lap time 1:43.754, while the others managed to reduce the gaps. Raikkonen still was third, but this time only 0.746s behind champion, while Daniil Kvyat on fourth was the last within one second.

In the last third of the practice session nothing has changed. Hamilton’s result remained best, Rosberg was 0.141s behind while Raikkonen’s gap remained same as after 60 minutes. Kvyat was fourth and Vettel fifth, as the last driver within a second.
