Kasey Kahne, Kurt Busch the fastest in Food City 500 Post Qualifying Practice

The first post-qualifying practice round started under ideal conditions around 8:30ET with an hour long session. Kasey Kahne took the early lead with 15.129, and was followed by Kurt Busch and Joey Logano. Tony Stewart suffered damage to the rear end of his car, while Harvick went to second with 15.181. That way, Logano was pushed to third and Busch to fourth. Behind them was Paul Menard, but he was pushed by Denny Hamlin with 15.229s. Jimmie Johnson didn’t have much luck in practice, finishing tenth with 15.276.

 

The final pre-race practice started around 11:30ET with almost every car out on track. Kurt Busch took the early lead with 15.201s followed by David Ragan and Jimmie Johnson. Kevin Harvick was at fourth, followed by Carl Edwards. Doing 15.326s with around 45 minutes to go, Harvick climbed to second and Keselowski went to third with 15.236, but was pushed to fourth by Kasey Kahne who did 15.227. At around 23 minutes to go, Keselowski almost hit the wall, but managed to save his Ford and continue driving. Around 20 minutes to go, Jeff Gordon jumped to fourth and then to third doing 15.178. Before going back to the pits for a quick setup, Kurt Busch did 15.043, expanding a gap between himself and Kahne whose fastest lap was 15.164. David Ragan did 15.168 and went to third, pushing Gordon to fourth. The top of the grid was mostly unchanged until the end of the session, and we can’t wait for the race!
