Luca Ghiotto on pole for Barcelona GP3 feature race

After Ghiotto’s last minute checkered flag practice win, all eyes were on the Italian to set the fastest time in qualifying for the Barcelona GP3 race scheduled to 17:20. Trident Motorsports’ driver was on top of his game and set the fastest time for pole position.

The qualifying session started at 9:45 with Arthur Janosz in the early lead, but he was soon overtaken by Esteban Ocon with 1:36.448. The yellow flag waved with 23 minutes to go, but the race has soon resumed. Alex Palou did 1:36.369 and went to the first, but was almost immediately topped by Mitchell Gilbert who lapped the circuit in 1:36.143. Luca Ghiotto went to first by doing 1:35.469 with nineteen minutes to go. Ocon came close to Ghiotto with 1:35.608, but that wasn’t enough to dethrone the Italian.

Luca Ghiotto failed to improve his time due to traffic in the final minutes, but maintained his leading position until the end of the session. Behind him in top five were Ocon, Emil Bernstorff, Alex Palou and Matheo Tuscher. Marvin Kirchhofer was on sixth, and was followed by Alfonso Celis Jr, Oscar Tunjo, Pal Varhaug and Jimmy Eriksson.
