  • 2015 Barcelona GP3 race, starting grid

The 17 laps long reverse pole GP3 Barcelona race started 9:25 with Antonio Fuoco starting from the pole position. Behind him were Kevin Ceccon and Jimmy Eriksson. Feature race winner Esteban Ocon was on eighth in the beginning of the race. Fuoco soon dropped and Marvin Kirchhoffer took over the lead, followed by Eriksson. Kirchhoffer managed to extend his lead to over 4 seconds halfway into the race.

Jann Mardenborough and Ceccon were battling for fifth, but Ceccon held off the attacker, while Ghiotto managed to get past Ocon who soon returned to seventh. Alex Palou Montalbo tried overtaking but went airborne over the curbs, damaging the floor of his car. By lap 10, the gap between Kirchhoffer and Eriksson was closer to 5 seconds, and on lap 11 Jann Mardenborough jumped to fifth by overtaking Ceccon. Oscar Tunjo made two great overtakes to enter the race for the points awarded to the top 10.

A fierce battle for third included Mardenborough as well. He tried to slip behind both Fuoco and Emil Bernstorff and he managed to make the brilliant move in the last lap. Marvin Kirchhoffer won the sprint race by almost seven seconds over Eriksson. Mardenborough, Fuoco and Bernstorff were also in top five. Behind them were Ceccon, Ocon, Luca Ghiotto, Matthew Parry and Alfonso Celis Jr, the last one to score race points for this weekend.
