Nico Rosberg set the fastest lap time during Formula 1 first free practice at Spa-Francorchamps. This wasn’t an interesting session, but it seemed like all teams have done everything they wanted to during a sunny morning in Belgium.

After half an hour everyone set the lap time, except Nico Rosberg who had technical troubles with his car. Rosberg’s teammate and championship leader Lewis Hamilton had a best result – 1:51.340, which was more than a second better than Daniel Ricciardo’s result, while second Red Bull driver, Daniil Kvyat was third at the moment.

Kimi Raikkonen, who could be described as Spa specialist, had a good effort as he moved up just 0.13 seconds behind Hamilton. With 40 minutes to go, session was red flagged after Pastor Maldonado gone off and hit the barrier, crashing his Lotus badly.

After 10 minutes, the session was resumed and Nico Rosberg was ready to take part in the last half an hour of first free practice. German driver immediately set the new best lap time – 1:51.200, and later extended his lead to 0.242 seconds. Soon after, yellow flags were out when Roberto Merhi spun, but briefly managed to turn back.

In the last minutes of free practice, nothing important happened as almost all drivers were in preparations for the second free practice. Mercedes’ pair topped the standings, followed by Daniel Riccardo and two Ferraris, while Marussias, as always, were on the back of standings.
