TCR International - Singapore: Gene wins, Comini again on the top

Jordi Gene (Craft Bamboo Lukoil) is the winner of Race 2 of TCR International Series at Singapore’s Marina Bay Street Circuit. Experienced Spanyard has won ahead of Stefano Comini (Target Competition) and teammate Pepe Oriola. Behind three Seat Leons there were two West Coast Racing’s Honda Civics on fourth and fifth place, driven by Gianni Morbidelli and Kevin Gleason.

These five drivers are the main candidates for the first TCR championship title. After nine out of eleven events Stefano Comini is leading with 264 points. With two second places in Singapore he jumped over the previous leader Pepe Oriola, who now has 253 points. Third placed Gene has 234, seventeen more than Morbidelli. Gleason rounded the Top 5 with 201 points.

In the second race at Singapore’s street track Jordi Gene took a dominant win with 3.6 seconds advantage over Comini after leading all 10 laps. Gene took the lead at the start from pole sitter Tomas Engström in Engstler’s Volkswagen Golf. In the same lap, Engstrom lost one more place to his team-mate Mikhail Grachev in another Golf. Russian driver held the second place until Lap 8 when he fell down in the order and finished seventh, behind Lorenzo Veglia in Engstler’s Seat Leon. TCR rookie Loris Hezemans in Target Competition’s Seat Leon scored one more points finish with eight place, ahead of Engtrom and Rene Münnich.

Michael Choi of Prince Racing repeated yesterday’s victory in the TCR Asia Series, beating George Chou and Frank Yu. Kenneth Lau crossed the line in third, but was eventually penalized for jump start.

The championship will resume on October 19 and 20 at Buriram, Thailand, for rounds 19 and 20.
