After Mattias Ekstrom, the double DTM champion who is also a regular World RX competitor, one more DTM champ will try to be competitive in a RX supercar against world’s best rallycross drivers.

We’re talking about Timo Scheider, Audi’s DTM driver, who will compete next weekend in the tenth round of the World Rallycross Championship, which will take place at the Circuit de Catalunya. Scheider will drive the Audi S3 of ALL-INKL.COM Muennich Motorsport, instead of team’s chief Rene Muennich, who will race this weekend at TCR races in Singapore.

“Barcelona is a great place and I have had some fantastic races there with DTM. I’ve looked at the rallycross tracks already and I’ve been watching onboard videos of the championship in general. I just need to catch as much information as possible at the moment. So far, it’s difficult to say how I will feel in the car and how things will come together. My engineer in DTM (who also works for Muennich Motorsport) is always been telling me about the performance steps the team has taken and now the car is quite competitive. For a race driver that is important, but I think the most performance I need to find from myself,” said Scheider.

More than 40 drivers with Supercars will compete at Barcelona, half of them in World RX competition and other half for Euro RX points. Together with the permanent World RX competitors there will be some occasional World RX drivers. American Tanner Foust will make his fourth World RX start of the season in a Marklund Motorsport Volkswagen Polo. Henning Solberg will race the Eklund Motorsport’s Volkswagen Beetle in Spain, while experienced French Supercar driver  Herve Knapick will run a pair of Citroen DS3’s in Barcelona for himself and compatriot Christophe Jouet.

For Euro RX competitors it will be the penultimate round of the championship. At the last event in Norway, Tommy Rustad took the championship lead, but Albatec Racing driver Jerome Grosset-Janin is still serious contender to championship title. Newly crowned Euro RX TouringCar champion Fredrik Salsten will race in Spain with Hansen’s Peugeot 208, as a preparation for a full-time Supercar drive in the next season.
