Loeb ready to bounce back at "Green Hell"
Nurburgring will be the center of the racing world next weekend. Legendary Nordschleife won’t host just 24 hours race, but also, for the first time in history, two rounds of the World Touring Car Championship.
In the first six rounds of the WTCC season, Citroen proved superiority and the French factory team this time could be even more dominant as the Nurburgring track is very close to the rally tracks. It is well known that Citroen led by Sebasten Loeb was absolutely dominant in the World Rally Championship and this race is pretty close to the rally conditions.
Team’s mechanics have huge experience how to prepare cars for different and more demanding conditions and it will be interesting to see how reigning champion and overall standings leader in the current season Jose Maria Lopez will battle with the demands of the “Green Hell“. Probably for the first time this season, he won’t be considered as a main favorite for victory even after he had the best result on the test day (8:38.027).
Former rally champion Loeb had test results very close to Lopez’s. After frustrating weekend at Hungaroring where he failed to finish at podium n both races, Frenchman is eager to bounce back in his ’natural environment’.
“This circuit is a real hell, but it is very thrilling to drive on. If you want to be quick, you need to use the whole track, but the grass and the safety barrier are so close that there is very little margin for error. The times in testing were very close. We will see how much progress different drivers have made usng their saved data,“ told Loeb.
