  • Blancpain Sprint Series Algarve – day 2 Christopher Mies

The second day of the Blancpain Sprint Series in Portugal on Algarve track started with three qualifying sessions in order to determine the position of the drivers for the afternoon’s qualifying race and tomorrow’s main race.

After a little surprise by the Reiter Engineering team and the fastest time achieved by its Lamborghini Gallardo on the first free practice session, HTP Bentley Team with Continental GT3 improved the result in the second practice session but the best was left for today’s qualifying session.

The qualifying sessions started in the morning and were set up as three track outings of half an hour each. In the first session, the Bentley Team HTP repeated its performance of the practice session achieving a time of  1:43.902 seconds, almost a full second ahead of the Audi Team which was the second fastest.

However, in the second qualifying session the Audi R8 LMS Ultra in the hands of Enzo Ide managed to get the fastest time of  1:43.772 and Audis from different teams occupied the first 4 places. This continued in the third qualifying session when Ide’s teammate Christopher Mies completed a lap in 1:43.458 seconds, which was not only the fastest time but also was good enough to get him the pole position. The Lamborghini Gallardo had the eight spot overall because of problems with the engine but it also proved that the old car still has a lot of potential.
