Formula 3: Double victory for Lance Stroll at Nurburgring

Lance Stroll won both FIA European Formula 3 Championship on Saturday at Nurburgring and extended his lead in the standings.

In the first race at Nurburgring, Lance Stroll scored his eighth victory of the season. The Prema Powerteam’s driver started from pole position and immediately pulled clear from the rest of the field. He was followed by his teammate Nick Cassidy but the New Zealander dropped down due to technical problems.

Another Prema Powerteam racer Maximilian Gunther took the second place in the race and stayed there until the end of the race while George Russell finished third for the second consecutive time.

The start of the race 2 was accident-packed and three drivers were forced to retire, with Russell and Cassidy being two of them. Gunther started better that Stroll and took the lead from the Canadian teenager before the safety car was deployed. After the restart, the two were in the race of their own.

Stroll pushed hard and eight minutes before the end of the race he took the lead from Gunther. The Canadian scored his ninth win in 2016 finishing 3.7s ahead of Gunther while Joel Eriksson of Motopark team finished third what is his third podium finish in the last four races.
