Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup: Sacha Fenestraz is the 2017 champion
Sacha Fenestraz is the 2017 Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup champion. The 18-year-old Frenchman, the driver of the Josef Kaufmann Racing’s #11 car, secured a title during the season’s finale at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya even before the last race. Fenestraz was fourth in the Race 1 in Saturday and second in the Race 2 on Sunday morning, building a big-enough advantage ahead of second-placed Will Palmer to celebrate a title.
Robert Shwartzman (R-Ace Grand Prix) was the race winner both in Race 1 and Race 2, scoring his fifth and sixth wins of the season. In Saturday’s race, he was sharing a podium with Will Palmer and Gabriel Aubry. On Sunday morning, Richard Verschoor joined Shwartzman and Fenestraz on a podium.
In the Race 3, on Sunday afternoon, Fenestraz closed a season with a victory, his seventh in 2017. He won ahead of Robert Shwartzman and Max Defourny. Max Fewtrell (Tech 1 Racing) finished in the seventh place, claiming the Rookie of the Year title.
