The Irish rally ace Craig Breen, who had his last WRC appearance in November 2018 in Australia with Citroen, has been appointed as the third driver for Hyundai Motorsport at Rally Finland (August 1-4, 2019). He will share the #42 Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC with navigator Paul Nagle.

Continuing to shuffle its drivers’ line-up, Hyundai announced crews for Finland, with Thierry Neuville/Nicolas Gilsoul in one car and Andreas Mikkelsen/Anders Jaeger in another. The third crew is a surprise for everybody, giving a chance to Breen/Nagle for a one-off return to the World Rally Championship.

“Rally Finland is a very particular type of event that warrants an approach like no other on the calendar. It’s a huge challenge for teams and crews alike. Craig has demonstrated his class at this event in the past and has a lot of experience, which will be invaluable to us,” said Hyundai’s Team Director Andrea Adamo.

Hyundai will be represented at Rally Finland with three WRC cars

Since his last WRC starts in 2018, Breen competed with several different cars in different national and regional competitions – Ford Fiesta R5, Škoda Fabia R5 or Ford Fiesta WRC. His next rally would be the Ypres Rally in a Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 and then, from June 12 to June 14, Breen will compete at Rally Estonia, which is the WRC candidate event.

The stellar entry list for Rally Estonia features many WRC stars besides Breen, such are Andreas Mikkelsen, Elfyn Evans, Teemu Suninen and Esapekka Lappi.
