Formula 3 Euro: Leclerc wins rainy race at Norisring

Charles Leclerc (Van Amersfoort Racing) has won the first race of the FIA F3 European Championship at the Norisring Circuit in Nuremberg. It’s Leclerc’s fourth victory this season and he extends the lead in the championship. Despite the wet and rainy conditions, Leclerc was leading from start to finish.

At the second spot on the podium was Antonio Giovinazzi (Jagonya Ayam with Carlin), who started seventh. Felix Rosenqvist (Prema Powerteam) finished third, ahead Maximilian Gunther (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) and Alexander Albon (Signature).

Other racers who managed to get some points on the scoreboard include  Dorian Boccolacci (Signature), Gustavo Menezes (Jagonya Ayam with Carlin), Lance Stroll (Prema Powerteam), Markus Pommer (Motopark) and George Russell (Carlin).

The race was finished with Safety Car in front of the field after 35 minutes of the time limit in Lap 30. The safety car was deployed in Lap 18 because there was a lot of debris on the track after few cars was damaged in off-track excursions and crashes. Fortunately, there were no major incidents. One of the drivers with a damaged car was Jake Dennis (Prema Powerteam), who was second in the championship standings before the race, so now he drops to fourth.

The second race at Norisring is scheduled for 18.10 today.
