Maiden GP2 victory for Luca Ghiotto

The Italian driver of Trident team, Luca Ghiotto, scored his maiden win in GP2 Series after he was the fastest in the sprint race at Sepang International Circuit.

The rookie had a very good start and quickly moved up to the second position. Soon he was at the top, profiting from the mistake made by Mitch Evans. Over the race Ghiotto was calm enough to maintain the lead and to score valuable win.

Ghiotto’s compatriot Raffaele Marciello finished 2nd, only a one second behind the winner, while Pierre Gasly took 3rd place to keep his title hopes alive.

In the Drivers’ standings, Antonio Giovinazzi leaves Sepang as Series leader with 197 points to 190 for Gasly whilst Marciello remains third on 158 ahead of Sergey Sirotkin who has 135 points.

The final round of 2016 GP2 Series is scheduled for November 26/27 at Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi.
