Volkswagen RX Sweden team announces that it wouldn’t return to the FIA World Rallycross Championship in 2017. The team would switch their focus to the European Rallycross Championship instead, together with selected rounds of the RallyX Nordic Championship. The team will continue to run Volkswagen Polo RX Supercars.

In 2016, the Swedish team had the best so far season in the World Rallycross Championship, finishing third in the teams’ classification while Johan Kristoffersson was the championship runner-up, after scoring one victory and two more podiums in twelve rounds. The team’s second driver Anton Marklund finished 13th in the points.

Jan Marklund, the team’s CEO, confirmed the team’s plans, explaining that Euro RX is the good platform for developing young talents for the future. On the other hand, he hopes that the team’s experience would promote them into the podium challengers in the 2017 Euro RX season. The season will start together with the World Rallycross Championship at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya (March 31 – April 2).
