2015 24 Hours of Le Mans - hour 18
The night is always special time for Le Mans racing. The limited visibility, lower temperatures, heavy traffic and greater dangers are something that every driver has to encounter. This year was not different and night time racing has on 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans had its interesting moments. First, there was trouble with problematic Nissan GT-R LM Nismo which lost its front wheel and tried to cripple its way to the pits and then finally retire around 1:00 am. The leading LMP1 cars had fierce battle between Audi and Porsche and the first place was changed between those two teams each time that some of them went into pits.
The GT class was even more interesting with Aston Martin fighting Corvette C7.R which fought Ferrari. It was mostly clear race but it had two incidents. First was Ferrari which caught fire in pit lane and second was crash involving No99 Aston Martin and LMP2 car.
While dawn approaches the race was calm with no leaders changes or crashes. However, in that moment Audi No 7 came into the pits with lots of bodywork missing. The pit crew repaired the car and send it back on track but lost over 7 minutes in the process. The No7 car was on the first place when accident happened but returned on second with over a 2 minutes behind the leading Porsche. This was the first time that the gap between first and second car was more than few seconds.
At this moment (8:30 am) it looks like Porsche 919 Hybrid car No19 (Hulkenberg/Babmer/Tandy) is going to win in front of two Audis on second and third. However, it is still 6 hours to race and anything can happened so stay tuned.
