NASCAR Sprint Cup Series: Hamlin wins Cheez-It 355 at The Glen
Denny Hamlin wins the Cheez-It 355 at The Glen, one of two road course races on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series calendar. It was Hamlin’s 28th Sprint Cup win, the career-first victory at some of the road courses and his second victory of the season, after he won at Daytona 500 in February.
The 90-lap race at the Watkins Glen had eight different leaders. Brad Keselowski, who led for most of the race (28 laps), overshot the Turn 1 at the restart after sixth caution, so Dennny Hamlin took the lead on Lap 80. One more caution followed immediately after that. With seven laps to go, Hamlin holds of in the lead after the restart, with Joey Logano and Martin Truex Jr. following him, while Keselowski dropped to fifth. On the same lap the red flag followed, caused by multicar wreck.
The race restarted with four laps to go. Denny Hamlin defended his lead and scored his first ever NASCAR win on the road course. Martin Truex Jr was chasing him but he was bumped out by Brad Keselowski in the last turn and he spun. Joey Logano jumped to the second place, Keselowski finished third, while Truex Jr dropped to eigth.
