Third in a row World RX victory for Mattias Ekström

Mattias Ekström takes his third victory this season in the 2016 FIA World Rallycross Championship by winning the fourth round of the championship today at Lydden Hill. After the victory at the British temple of rallycross, Ekström remained in the championship lead with five points advantage over reigning champion Petter Solberg, who finished second in the final run.

Prior to that, Solberg dominated and won three of four qualifying heats and also the semifinal, to secure the pole position for the final. But, it wasn’t enough against Ekström.

Behind Ekström’s Audi S1 and Solberg’s Citroen DS3 there were two Peugeot 208s of  the Team Peugeot-Hansen. Timmy Hansen reached the podium, ahead of his younger brother Kevin. The rest of the field in the final was completed by Timur Timerzyanov (World RX Team Austria Ford Fiesta) and Andreas Bakkerud (Hoonigan Racing Ford Focus).

Six more drivers who reached the Semifinal were Kevin Eriksson, Toomas Heikkinen, Anton Marklund, Janis Baumanis, Sebastien Loeb and Johan Kristoffersson. In total, 22 drivers participated in the British round of the 2016 World RX.
