ADAC GT Masters: First win of the season for Engelhart and Ineichen
The pole-sitter Engelhart started the race well and kept his lead while three Mercedes cars were behind – the #84 of HTP Motorsport with Maximilian Gotz behind the wheel, #26 of Mucke Motorsport driven by Sebastian Asch, and Zakspeed’s #21 of Luca Ludwig.
When the pit window was opened, the top 4 standings were unchanged even after Philipp Eng in #42 BMW of Team Schnitzer and Daniel Keilwitz in #77 Corvette of Callaway Competition were very aggressive and had several attempts to separate a group of Mercedes cars.
After the driver change, GRT #63 Lamborghini of Rolf Ineichen still had a comfortable 10-second lead to #84 Mercedes and #26 Mercedes while #77 Corvette, the winner of Saturday’s race, moved up to the 4th place, just in front of Ricky Collard in #42 BMW.
It was pretty quiet second half of the race after the gaps between the leading cars were big. Jules Gounon pushed hard to move #77 Corvette up to the third but Patrick Assenheimer defended well until the penultimate lap. Gounon then did a fine maneuver and secured not only the podium finish but also the championship lead. Ineichen secured a maiden win for him and Engelhart finishing 3.5s ahead of #26 Mercedes driven by Asch and DTM championship leader Lucas Auer.
The fourth round of the ADAC GT Masters will be held at Circuit Park Zandvoort, July 22-23.
