Marcel Fässler and Dries Vanthoor leads Audi dominance at Hungaroring

  • #5 Audi R8 LMS, Blancpain Sprint Hungaroring

The #5 Audi R8 LMS was unbeatable this weekend at Hungaroring in the fourth round of the 2017 Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup. After setting best times in practice and qualifying, Team WRT’s Marcel Fässler and Dries Vanthoor scored victories in both races. Following yesterday’s win in the Qualifying race, they repeated a triumph in today’s Main race at Hungarian Grand Prix track.

The race was a complete success for Audi as four Team WRT crews finished in the top 5. Jake Dennis and Pieter Schothorst crossed the finish line as the second-placed pair in the #3 Audi, beating the #63 Grasser Racing Team’s Lamborghini Huracan GT3, driven by Mirko Bortolotti and Christian Engelhart. Robin Frijns and Stuart Leonard finishd fourth in the #17 Audi, ahead of #2 Audi driven by Will Stevens and Markus Winkelhock.

Twenty-nine crews participated in the race. The best in the Pro-Am class were Alexander Matschull and Daniel Keilwitz in the #333 Rinaldi Racing Ferrari 488 GT3. Jules Szymkowiak and Fabian Schiller were the best Silver category drivers, finishing 8th overall in the HTP Motorsport’s Mercedes.
