NASCAR: Kyle Larson's third consecutive win at Michigan
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kyle Larson clinched his third victory of the 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series in Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400, scoring his third consecutive win at Michigan International Speedway’s 2-mile oval and fourth Cup Series victory in total.
Larson led only the last two laps of the 202-lap event in the #42 Chevrolet, passing Martin Truex Jr. after the final green flag. Trux led three times for 57 laps in the #78 Furniture Row Racing Toyota but red flag due to late-race incident on lap 196 stopped him on a way to new victory.
Rookie Erik Jones led five laps and scored a career-best finish in third. Ryan Newman was fourth with Trevor Bayne and Chris Buescher both posting season-best finishes to round out the top six. Brad Keselowski started from pole and led for 103 of the first 110 laps, faded to a 17th-place finish. He was the Stage 1 winner while Truex won the Stage 2.
The next race is Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway on August 19.
