World RX Canada: Third win in a row for Johan Kristoffersson

Johan Kristoffersson (PSRX Volkswagen Sweden, Volkswagen Polo) cliches third win in a row in the 2017 FIA World Rallycross Championship this weekend at the Circuit Trois-Rivieres in Canada. It was the eighth championship round and Kristoffersson extends his lead in the standings with four wins in total ahead of teammate Petter Solberg, who finished second in Canada. Sebastien Loeb (Team Peugeot Hansen) finished in the third place for third time in a row.

Other three finalist in Canada were Kevin Eriksson (MJP Racing Team Austria, Ford Fiesta), Toomas Heikkinen (EKS RX, Audi S1) and Timmy Hansen (Peugeot)

Twenty Supercar drivers participated in the Canadian round of the championship, twelve of them made it to the Semi finals. Johan Kristoffersson was the most successful through four qualifying heats, winning Q2 and Q4. Toomas Heikkinen and Petter Solberg recorded fastest times in Q1 and Q3 respectively. The biggest name among the drivers who didn’t manage to enter Semi finals was Andreas Bakkerud.

Johan Kristoffersson was the best qualifier and then the event winner at Circuit Trois-Rivieres

Johan Kristoffersson topped the first Semi final race in which five of six drivers were from Sweden. Timmy Hansen and Kevin Eriksson finished second and third, finiding a way to Final. Kevin Hansen (Peugeot 208), Janis Baumanis (Ford Fiesta) and Mattias Ekstrom (Audi S1) ended their participation in the SF1. The reigning champion Ekstrom stopped with broken car, missing the Final for the first time this season.

Petter Solberg was the winner of the second Semi final race, ahead of Toomas Heikkinen and Sebastien Loeb. Other contestants in the SF1 group were Ken Block (Ford Focus), Timo Scheider (Ford Fiesta) and Timur Timerzyanov (Ford Fiesta).

Top 4 positions in the championship order remained unchanged. Kristoffersson leads with 211 points, Solberg has 176, Ekstrom follows with 158 and Loeb is fourth with 144 points. Timmy Hansen progressed to the fifth.

The next championship round is the World RX of France at Circuit de Loheac on September 2-3.
